We will define what equity means in education today. I will give concrete examples of inequities and how to ensure all students receive an equitable education. Participants will leave speech energized with practical solutions to help end education inequities.

Designing Antiracist Student Supports

We will identify supports needed in order for  students to thrive in an antiracist school environment. The values normalized by the white dominant culture will be  interrogated within the school context. Curriculum  representation, assets-based instruction, and culturally  relevant practice will be emphasized as promising supports to engage students of color.

Unintended Consequences

We will discuss how the Brown vs Board of Education decision led to the elimination of Black educational capital and how it can be replaced in our schools today. Participants will also examine how the ruling eliminated black autonomy in the education of America's Black children.

Understanding Disproportionality in School Culture

We will take a deep dive into disproportionality in school discipline policies and practices.  Participants will review research related to targeted school discipline practices and policies and make recommendations based on an anti-racist lens.

AntiRacism

A guide to helping teachers, schools, school divisions, and companies move toward antiracism practices and pedagogy. Topics for beginners and more advanced work in Antiracism. 

School to Prison Pipeline

Participants will discuss the school to Prison pipeline. We will look at the latest data and discuss proactive school discipline strategies to help end the pipeline.
